Visa Expiration and Investigation
According to Jorhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra, the individual’s visa expired on January 17, 2025. While applying for a renewal, it was discovered during verification that he was engaging in proselytisation activities in the district.
Official Actions Taken
Following the investigation, an adverse report was submitted to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Kolkata. Subsequently, the FRRO issued a ‘Leave India Notice’ to the Canadian citizen, which was served by Jorhat police.
Deportation Process
To ensure compliance with the notice, Jorhat police handed the individual over to the FRRO in Kolkata earlier this week. He was later deported to Canada from New Delhi.
