This week, schools across Assam, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Bihar have shut down for different reasons, including extreme weather conditions, festivals, and wildlife safety concerns. Here’s a detailed breakdown of why schools are closed in these states:

Assam Schools Closed Due to Heatwave

Schools in Assam’s Kamrup district are closed from September 24 to September 27, 2024, due to an ongoing heatwave. As temperatures soared, students reported heat-related illnesses, including fainting. In response, authorities initially adjusted school hours to 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM and suspended outdoor activities. However, with the heat persisting, both government and private schools have been closed for health and safety reasons. Schools are expected to reopen on September 30.

Bihar and Jharkhand Schools Shut for Jiutiya Festival

Schools in Bihar and Jharkhand are closed for one day on September 25, 2024, to observe the Jiutiya festival. This significant cultural event has led to school closures in districts such as Dhanbad in Jharkhand and across Bihar to allow students and families to participate in the celebrations.

Tiger Activity Closes Schools in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand’s Jakhnidhar tehsil, Pauri Garhwal district, nine schools and all Anganwadi centres in the Dwarikhal area have been closed due to increased tiger sightings. To ensure the safety of students and staff, schools will remain shut on September 23 and 24, 2024, according to District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan.

With these closures across different states, parents and students are encouraged to stay updated with school authorities for reopening dates and safety guidelines.
