Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming Assam from a state once plagued by insurgency into one of the most peaceful regions in India.
Speaking at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025, Sarma emphasized the state’s remarkable journey from unrest to stability.
“For decades, Assam faced agitation and insurgency. However, since 2016, under PM Modi’s leadership, Assam has witnessed a rebirth. Today, I can proudly say that Assam, once the most disturbed state, is now the most peaceful in our nation,” said CM Sarma.
Major Industrial and Infrastructure Boost in Assam
Sarma acknowledged the Centre’s commitment to Assam’s industrial development, highlighting key projects that have accelerated economic growth.

- Tata-DoRa Semiconductor Facility – A major boost to Assam’s technology sector.
- Greenfield Fertilizer Plant in Namrup – A cutting-edge facility with a production capacity of 1.2 million metric tons.
- Numaligarh Refinery Expansion – Increased capacity to 9 million metric tons, with an investment of ₹27,000 crore.
The CM also highlighted Assam’s rapid infrastructure expansion, stating that since 2016, the state has constructed 2,327 kilometers of national highways. Additionally, Assam’s GDP has grown from $29 billion in 2013 to $68.7 billion in 2023, showcasing significant economic progress.
